Our Story

How we approach a deck job

We build new decks and fix old ones for homeowners across Los Angeles, working on everything from a small side-yard platform to a raised deck off a hillside home. Most of us got into this trade doing framing and rough carpentry, and decks turned into the specialty because there's more to get wrong than people think. We still enjoy the layout part, working out board pattern and stair placement before anything gets cut.

If you're on this page, your deck is probably doing one of a few things: the boards have cupped and gone gray, the rail has some give in it when you lean on it, or there's a soft, spongy spot near where the deck meets the house. That spot by the house is usually a flashing problem at the ledger board, and it's the one we check first because it's the one that rots the frame from the inside without much warning. We replace what's actually failed, sister new joists to old ones where the rest of the frame is sound, and we don't tell you to redo a deck that just needs its rim joist and flashing fixed.
